ORIENTATIONS

In response to family and staff feedback, in-person orientations have been cancelled out of an abundance of caution. In their place, virtual orientations will be shared as soon as possible. Individual schools may also be sharing details about the first few weeks of school through their normal communication channels. Be sure to check your email, texts, voicemail, Remind and Dojo for updates.

FOOD SERVICE

TRANSPORTATION

IN-PERSON STUDENTS: If your student is eligible for transportation and you have not yet received a letter in the mail with bus route information, please call:

Lorain City Schools Transportation: (440) 288-3333 x10 or (440) 830-4047

  • Any busing request we receive starting next week will not start till January 19th.

  • Students should report to their bus stop five minutes prior and MUST be wearing a face covering to board the bus.

  • Please be advised that due to the unusual nature of this school year, and the anticipated changes to the routes as more students return to school, your child’s pickup and drop off times will change. Bus drivers will communicate these changes to your child in writing.

  • Throughout the year, it is our goal to have buses arrive promptly; however, we are occasionally faced with unavoidable obstacles, such as bad weather or blocked railroad crossings. Although infrequent, these obstacles can affect our schedules. We appreciate your patience and understanding in these situations when buses may arrive marginally late

First Student: (440) 288-3333

  • Late buses, concerns about behavior on buses, other on-bus issues

  • High School Bus Passes $10

COVID TESTING

Lorain City Schools has partnered with Mercy Health, Lorain County Department of Health, and Case Western Reserve University to provide FREE COVID testing of staff and students. While testing is voluntary, it is highly encouraged. Here’s what you need to know:

  • COVID testing is important to help us know how well our mitigation practices are working to keep everyone as safe as possible.

  • When paired with our contact tracing efforts, we will know if COVID is spreading in our schools and we will be able to make immediate adjustments to ensure that COVID does not spread.

  • COVID testing will also help us to identify staff and students who are asymptomatic but who could be transmitting the virus.

  • This will help to keep our staff and students safer, as well as our staff and students’ families safer, by finding people with COVID who otherwise we would not be able to identify.

If you would like for your child to participate:

  • Baseline testing for students will begin the week of January 11th for students.

  • Randomized student testing will begin the week of January 18th.

  • If your child has already contracted COVID, we ask that they do NOT participate in COVID testing. They could still be shedding the virus and could possibly test positive even though they are no longer capable of spreading the virus.

In order to participate you must complete a consent form and return it either prior to the baseline test or on the day of your child’s baseline test. Hard copies will be available at your child’s school. You can also download the consent form here.
