WE ARE WORKING ON STUDENT BUS TRANSPORTATION

Hello Titan families,

The first week of school with your children has been great. We appreciate everyone’s patience as we ramp up for the new school year.

Student transportation is one area that we know needs work. Our top concern is getting our students to and from our buildings safely and efficiently. We ask for your patience as we work through some challenges, typical for the first days of school as we continue to fine-tune transportation and some because of changes we made to improve transportation for our families.

We are transporting more students this year with our transportation partners at Auxilio. All Lorain City School students who live 2 or more miles from their home school are eligible for bus transportation. This includes our Lorain High students. Transportation services are based on Ohio Revised Code 3327.01.

Expanding to all high school students who live 2 miles or more from Lorain High is our way of moving beyond the state minimum for our families.

We believe once more families know they are eligible for transportation services, the number of students taking the bus to school will only increase. This is a very good thing, but it will take some time to get there.

We want you to know we are listening to your concerns and are dedicated to getting it right — as quickly as possible.

We want more families to take advantage of our bus transportation. We need families to request transportation. Requesting transportation ensures your child gets on a bus roster if approved.  We cannot transport a student who is not on a bus roster, and all bus drivers will take daily attendance to ensure every child on their bus should be there. This is a safety issue.

After we have set routes for students who live 2.0 miles or more from their home schools, we will begin checking space availability on established routes for students who live less than 2 miles from their home schools. Space availability will not be available until September.

Visit lorainschools.org/transportation to request busing for your child.

When you visit our website, you will find three forms to request transportation, and you are probably wondering which one to complete to ensure your child is considered for busing.

Let’s discuss each form to understand which one is right for your family.

HIGH SCHOOL TRANSPORTATION REQUEST FORM: This form is ONLY for high school (Grade 9-12) students who live 2.0 miles or more from Lorain High School and would like bus transportation to and from a designated bus stop.

TRANSPORTATION REQUEST FORM: This form is ONLY for students in Grades K-8 who live 2.0 miles or more from their home school and would like to receive bus transportation.

SPACE AVAILABLE BUS TRANSPORTATION REQUEST FORM: This form is for ALL students in Grades K-12 who live less than 2.0 miles from their home school in areas that are designated as walking areas but would like to request busing if space is available along established routes.

DOWNLOAD TRAVERSA RIDE 360
Lorain City Schools uses the Traversa Ride 360 platform, available to families as an app that can be downloaded from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store to provide families with up-to-date transportation information.

We encourage everyone to download the Ride 360 app to get busing information for their students. If a student's information is not in Ride 360, they are currently not routed for district transportation services.

Ride 360 lets families know immediately when there has been a change in pick-up and drop-off times.
