March 29| Career and College Day at LHS

We are so excited about March 28.

It is more than ACT Day for our juniors. We have something planned for all students geared toward helping prepare them for the next steps of their lives. So, whether you have a freshman who will visit a local college, a sophomore who will learn about our Career and Technical Education programs right on the Lorain High School campus, or a senior heading out into our community for a day of service, this message is for you.

Here is what you need to know:

ARRIVAL: All students will arrive at Lorain High school on March 28 as usual. Breakfast will be available in the cafeteria. While there, students in grades 9-11 should check the postings in the cafeteria to find the location of where they will report. Seniors will report to the auditorium.

DISMISSAL: March 28 will be an early dismissal day for all students.
Juniors and sophomores, who are already on-site at Lorain High, will have lunch and be dismissed at 12:30 PM. Bus transportation will be provided at that time for students who take the bus. Lunch for juniors taking the ACT is from 11:30 AM-12 PM. They will then wait in the auditorium while sophomores have lunch from 12-12:30 PM. Juniors and sophomores will be dismissed at 12:30 PM.

Freshmen and seniors will start arriving at Lorain High at 1:30 PM. Parents who pick up their students should arrive by 1:30 PM. Bus transportation will be provided at that time for students who take the bus. Juniors who need additional time to complete their ACT and need transportation will be allowed to take the 1:30 PM bus if they are already a student who takes the bus.

Please be patient with us on this day. We want to ensure that our students taking the ACT have enough time to complete their tests and that students who are off-site can return to school in a timely fashion.

FINALFORMS: All freshmen and seniors attending off-site field trips on March 28 must return permission slips and have updated contact and emergency medical authorization information completed in FinalForms. March 28 is a day planned for all students. Therefore, freshmen and seniors are expected to attend their assigned field trips. You can update your child's FinalForms at lorainschools.org/finalforms. If you need help, please call the FinalForms hotline at (440)830-4024.

FRESHMEN: Freshmen will visit 13 Ohio colleges and universities. All students are expected to attend. Please turn in your permission slip immediately if you still need to do so. Permission slips were due on Wednesday, March 22, 2023. The permission slip EMA on the reverse side MUST be filled out, and FinalForms MUST be updated for all students.

SOPHOMORES: Imagine leaving high school with credentials that jump-start a career in an in-demand industry. March 28 is an opportunity for all sophomores to visit and learn more about the career and technical education pathways available right on the campus of Lorain High. Students will rotate through 14 career tech programs, including HVAC, welding, architectural design, sports, health & fitness, culinary arts, and more, and learn about the military opportunities with the JROTC. In addition, students can express their interest in signing up for career tech at this time. Ohio Means Jobs will also be on-site; students will hear from representatives.

JUNIORS:  March 28 is ACT Day for our juniors. All juniors will take this important test to prepare them for college admissions. A few testing reminders:
  • All students must have a photo ID to enter the testing room. Your school ID or driver's license meets these requirements. If a student does not have your school ID, one can be made for them during lunch before Tuesday, March 28.
  • Students will NOT be allowed to enter the testing room with any cell phone, Chromebook, smartwatch, ear pods, or electronic device. All electronic devices must be secured in a school locker. Students will not be allowed to access them until ACT testing is completed. Students needing their locker information can speak with their homeroom teacher or school counselor.
  •  Students should check the postings in the cafeteria on the day of testing to find their testing room.

SENIORS: March 28 is senior service day. All seniors will visit various locations to volunteer their time in our community. Possible sites include our elementary and middle schools to help younger Titans for the day or community service with organizations like the Friendship APL, Horizon Education Center, Neighborhood Alliance Haven Center, and Salvation Army. Students should dress accordingly.
