Stevan Dohanos 4th Graders Selected As Entrants In The American Library of Poetry's 2020 Student Poetry Contest

Huge shout-out to Stevan Dohanos' Mrs. Milks and her 4th grade students Jacob Corey and Brookelynn Keberdle!

Recently, both Jacob and Brookelynn received letters from The American Library of Poetry, notifying them that their poems “Las Vegas” and “Florida Vacation,” respectively, have been officially registered as entries into the organization’s 2020 Student Poetry Contest!

Stevan Dohanos Principal Marie Deshuk commended Mrs. Milks for her work with not only Jacob and Brookelynn, but with her entire classroom as well.

Principal Deshuk said Mrs. Milks works diligently with Google Classroom and her instruction includes Project Based Learning as well as Student Conferences.

Adding that Mrs. Milks “is a Shining Star!”

Throughout the summer, semi-final and final rounds of grading by a review committee will culminate with the selection of the year’s Division Winners and Runners-Up, on September 3oth.

That’s where these entrants could potentially take home not only the coveted Certificate of Achievement, but also a plethora of prizes AND the grand prize of $500 cash!

Personally, we think Jacob and Brookelynn are already grand prize winners, because The American Library of Poetry has said that both of their poems will be published in a special book of student poetry titled “Together.”

A prestigious honor, as this fall release will only include a very limited cross-section of this year’s submissions.

So in the meantime, show your love and support by congratulating Jacob, Brookelynn, Mrs. Milks and Stevan Dohanos Elementary School and enjoy both of their poems—about two of the coolest summer vacation destinations—below.

And check back this fall, because we have a hunch we mayyyyy be announcing some grand prize winners!
